Obituary of Wilda Doreen Christensen
Obituary
Wilda passed away April 21, 2022, after a long and joyful life. She celebrated her 98th birthday
at her home in Fort Collins. Wilda was born on March 27, 1924, in Willard, Colorado, the
daughter of Tom and Ethel Widener. She graduated from Willard High School and obtained a
degree from Colorado State Teacher College (now UNC). She taught elementary grades at
Willard, Strasburg and Padroni.
She married Glenn Christensen and spent their lives together in Fort Collins, CO, where Glenn
worked at Mountain Bell. Wilda worked at CSU for 35 years as the Administrative Assistant to
the Dean of the College of Business. She also enjoyed working at the Colorado Welcome
Center in Fort Collins and was always amazed at how little people knew about Colorado when
they came to visit.
She loved to bowl and travel and combined both by bowling in 40 Women's International
Bowling Association tournaments across the United States. She earned many awards and was
very proud of her team winning their division in San Diego. She served on both the Fort Collins
and Colorado State Bowling Board of Directors, and was in the Colorado Women’s Bowling Hall
of Fame.
She and Glenn took many trips together in their RV. One of her last adventures was a cruise
through the Panama Canal.
One of the most cherished gifts that Wilda and Glenn gave to their family was buying a rustic
cabin in Poudre Canyon. Many family reunions over Labor Day weekend were spent together in
this special place as well as many weekend trips.
Wilda represented her generation by instilling the values and traditions of all of those who came
before her. She was the last of her generation in our family and even in her passing, those
memories will never be forgotten.
She love her 12 nephews and nieces and their families. Her niece, Evelyn, lived with her the last
10 years and was Wilda’s beloved Caregiver. At Wilda’s request there will be no services.
