Obituary of Rebecca Ann Shafer-Chunko

Rebecca, Ann Shafer Chunko born on August 6, 1962 passed peacefully on July 7, 2023 at the age of 60. She was born to David and Beverly Shafer of bellevue, Nebraska on August 6, 1962

Our family relocated to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1971, where Becky attended Tavelli elementary, Lincoln junior high, and Poudre High School. After high school Becky attended the University of Northern Colorado where she earned her bachelors degree in early childhood education, and her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education.

In 1985 she moved to Colorado Springs to begin her career as a first grade teacher. She taught first grade for 20 years. 

In 1986 Becky met her soulmate and best friend Stephen Chunko. They were married in 1988. In 1994, she and Steve moved to Fort Collins to join the family business.  They soon welcomed a son, Jackson David.

Becky absolutely loved being a teacher as she was blessed with such a kind heart. She loved gardening and reading, and being with her family and friends.  Her greatest love was her son Jackson. She was incredibly proud of all of his achievements, and so excited for his future. 

She leaves behind her parents, David and Beverly Shafer, of Fort Collins, CO. Her husband Steve and son, Jackson. She also leaves behind two sisters. Kim and (Mike) Stewart and Lisa and (Mitch) Sherburne. Five nieces, Katelyn Way (James),Lauren and Emily Adams, and Ella and Zoey Stewart. One nephew David Stewart and her sister in law Sue & Austin Bryan, of Colorado Springs. Becky was a precious Daughter, Wife, Mother, sister, Aunt and friend. She will be forever missed, loved & cherished.

A celebration of Becky’s life will be held at the Adriel hills clubhouse on Sunday August 6th from 2-5pm.
