In Loving Memory: Elaine Bingham Sabey

Elaine Bingham Sabey, born on November 22, 1927 in Magrath, Alberta, Canada, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2023 in Littleton, Colorado. Living to the age of 96, she was the last of her siblings and outlived her husband by 6 months. A pillar of light and faith, Elaine spent her life spreading joy, kindness and love.
When she was not quite 8 years old her mother passed away suddenly. After her mom’s death, her sisters surrounded her with love, friendship and support that helped her navigate the loss of her mother. One sister in particular, Jean, left her nursing school to be the mother-figure for the rest of Elaine’s childhood.
Elaine met her future husband, Burns, in kindergarten. He fell in love with her in first grade and she fell in love with him in fourth grade. Their romance blossomed through high school and they were married on Nov. 10, 1948. Their love deepened through their 75 years of marriage.
As mother to six children, Elaine’s love was shown through many small acts of kindness and love. Often, when her children were young she would tenderly whisper "sweet nothings" into their ears before nap or bedtime—her way of making sure they knew they were loved. Her life was focused on family, and she raised her children in an environment of warmth and affection.
Elaine was an avid learner. Whether it was uplifting literature or college classes, she reveled in the joy of learning. An ardent believer in the importance of language,  Elaine encouraged her children to use correct grammar.
Elaine’s faith was deep. It was said that her prayers held a unique potency – if something needed divine intervention, her children would ask her to pray for them.
She was service oriented. Elaine would often be the last to depart from a gathering, lending a helping hand or offering a supportive ear where it was needed before leaving. Her quiet and humble acts of kindness demonstrated her compassion and ability to love.
Elaine's kind-hearted nature was complemented by a charm and quick wit that made those with her laugh. She was a wonderful conversationalist.
She loved and supported Burns through his schooling, raising their children, his work and many time consuming church responsibilities, and he supported her. They had a partnership of equality and respect. Their eternal bond continues far beyond this earthly life.
Elaine's legacy of faith, family, love, and loyalty has impacted many, especially her family that now numbers into the hundreds.

Elaine leaves behind a legacy of love through her 6 children, 36 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild (with another on the way).
